                     Alabama Public Charter School Commission Expands Public Charter School Options with Approval of Four New Schools
Montgomery, Ala. — The Alabama Public Charter School Commission (APCSC) has approved four new public charter schools, continuing its work to expand high-quality educational opportunities for students across the state. The newly approved schools will serve communities in Dothan, Tuscaloosa County, and Birmingham.
The Commission approved TIME Leadership Academy, a K–8 public charter school designed to prepare students to become confident leaders and changemakers through a rigorous, student-centered learning environment. The school emphasizes whole-child development, leadership, and service while supporting students in discovering their unique talents and preparing for long-term success in school and life. Time Leadership Academy is expected to open in the 2027–2028 school year.
The Commission also approved C.A. Fredd Jr. Career and Technical Academy, a public charter high school focused on preparing students for college and careers through hands-on learning, technical training, and workforce-aligned pathways. The school will integrate academic instruction with real-world skill development and industry partnerships to equip students with the tools needed to succeed in high-demand careers and beyond. C.A. Fredd Jr. Career and Technical Academy is expected to open in the 2028–2029 school year.
xS.T.R.E.A.M. Minds Academy will serve students in grades K–8 with a focus on delivering a dynamic learning experience through S.T.R.E.A.M. education, integrating science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The school aims to provide personalized learning and support students’ academic growth alongside social-emotional development, preparing them to succeed in an evolving, innovation-driven world. x.S.T.R.E.A.M Minds Academy is expected to open in the 2028–2029 school year.
Florecer Community School will serve students in grades K-8 as a dual language immersion public charter school designed to provide a culturally diverse and globally focused learning experience. Through its two-way Spanish immersion model, the school aims to develop multilingual students while fostering academic excellence and community engagement. Florecer Community School is expected to open in the 2028–2029.
