Alabama Public Charter School Commission Awards Charter School Program Subgrants to Five Alabama Public Charter Schools

Montgomery, Ala. — The Alabama Public Charter School Commission (APCSC) has awarded Charter School Program (CSP) Subgrants to five Alabama public charter schools to support the expansion of high-quality educational opportunities for students and families across the state.

The following schools were selected as recipients of the APCSC Charter School Program Subgrant:

  • Accel Day and Evening Academy — Mobile, Alabama
  • Covenant Academy of Mobile — Mobile, Alabama
  • Ignite Academy — Mobile, Alabama
  • Ivy Classical Academy — Elmore County, Alabama
  • University Charter School — Livingston, Alabama

The APCSC Charter School Program Subgrant is designed to assist public charter schools in strengthening academic programming, building operational capacity, and supporting long-term sustainability efforts. Through this funding opportunity, the APCSC continues its commitment to increasing access to innovative, high-quality public education options for students throughout Alabama. Of the five awarded subgrantee schools, four are authorized by the APCSC, while one is authorized by the Elmore County School System.

“The Alabama Public Charter School Commission is proud to support schools that are expanding opportunities and delivering innovative educational options for students and families across our state,” said Logan Searcy, Executive Director of the APCSC. “These subgrants will help schools strengthen their academic programs, build organizational capacity, and continue creating high-quality learning environments that prepare students for long-term success.”

The Charter Schools Program (CSP) is a federal initiative authorized under Title IV, Part C of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Alabama received nearly $30 million in federal CSP funding to support the development, expansion, replication, and sustainability of high-quality public charter schools across the state.

The next APCSC CSP Subgrant application cycle will open on June 8, 2026. Additional information regarding eligibility requirements, application materials, and technical assistance opportunities can be found through the Alabama Public Charter School Commission website.
